Fields of Mistria is a Horror game where you play as The Horror

The game starts pretty normally - the village needs a boost in the economy to recover after a horrible earthquake, so might as well get some farmer to occupy that abandoned plot of land south of the village. Might as well contact the adventurers guild, surely they'll have someone willing to settle down for something less adventurous.

Balor picks up the new farmer at the bridge and brings the newbie to the farm. Eiland shows the farmer around - the two of them find a curious statue of a dragon on that abandoned farm but Eiland doesn't pay it too much attention and never comes to check it again (despite his interest in all old stuff).

And yet, the statue speaks to the new farmer. Teaches the farmer magic. Urges the farmer to remove the seals deep in the mines. Who sealed the dragon is unknown. No one suspects the seals are there for a reason. Clearly, the seals must be removed, since the farmer says so.

Magic, dragons, Witchspeak - all are things of fairy tales after all. There's no way this will have any bad effect on the village.

Surely, the farmer summoning a rain or commanding the plants to grow or conjuring a horse out of thin air is… normal, right? The villagers are quick to comment on the new crops shipped, on the new museum finds. No one says a word about the magic. The horse. The rains. The crops. The dragon.

No one says a word about the farmer being able to tell where any villager is at any given moment. No one says a word when the farmer changes the clothes, the haircut, the hair colour, the skin colour in just a second. The farmer always looked like this of course. No one notices when the farmer's name changes. The farmer's name was always Ȧ̷͎̟͉̓͌̄̌͘r̷̘̠̙̪̤͔̥̥̀̿ī̴̭̗̯̜̺̂̈́, was it not?

Surely, it is fine to have the s̷h̸a̴p̵e̸s̶h̵i̷f̵t̸i̷n̸g̸ ̴m̸e̸m̴o̸r̶y̴-̵m̶o̴d̴i̶f̷y̵i̸n̵g̶ ̸m̵a̸g̷i̶c̵-̴c̵a̵s̴t̴i̶n̷g̸ ̷e̶n̵t̵i̶t̵y̶ in your village.

It helps the village to recover after the earthquake, after all.

What do you think a Kingdom Hearts Roguelike would look like?

I would like to preface this by saying that I only had an extremely vague of what qualifies as a rogue like and looked it up on wikipedia.

I don’t think the permadeath angle would work extremely well but hey the Mystery Dungeon genre started by Chunsoft featuring the pokemon and final fantasy chocobo spinoffs dont have permadeath. So it’s not that mandatory, it’s more the idea of being put back on floor 1 in their cases. Final Fantasy 14 also has special dungeons of this style in which you have to start over from floors 1/21/51 if your party dies.

In universe setting wise that would be a great way to explore the Realm of darkness again. 0.2 already featured the world drastically changing appearance and structure so the randomly generated floors would feel normal. Heck the devs could invent that some worlds stayed there for too long and the post KH1 reset wasn’t enough to resurface them. As of player resource management, Kingdom Hearts X chi limited the number of enemies you could attack each trip into the dark corridor trials unless you used an item. That’s what the beads of light bracelet was for, the white riding hood version of the organization coat being a item that refilled the beads. It could be expanded upon given hunger or sleep is not a thing in the rod.

since prototype is not much of a gamer and from the 1930s. what video game does he try out?... for me (and know this game didn't exist yet during in this AU timeline but) Balatro. it's a poker-inspired roguelike deck builder all about creating powerful synergies and winning big. imagine the prototype being like "i used to play cards with my old friends, so be easy for me" and now it's been 20 hours since he pick up the game. Angel been calling for him/found him on his 30s run to 100% the game... help this old man.

You're SO correct actually. Any type of game that uses cards or deck-building is an instant "yes" for Proto! He saw Kickin and Bubba playing Yu-Gi-Oh, and after being taught he just murders all of his adversaries.

I think Prototype prefers watching rather than playing, but he avoids most shooters (except Splatoon, he loves the "kid squid game" (he knows what it's called he just thinks his nickname is better)). He tried playing Portal once but hated GLaDOS so much he quit. If we don't count anything that has cards, however, his favorites would be Pokemon and Harvest Moon (gets into Stardew Valley later), finding them to be very relaxing. Plays Minecraft if the toys annoy him for long enough, but he's always busy protecting them from the monsters.

Prototype is prohibited from touching Uno because he will destroy everyone else.

hiiiiii creek i feel like i should warn you ahead of time that this is less of an actual au and more of a vague idea of an au but pete is a primarily fortnite streamer who sometimes dabbles in other first person shooter games and andy (also a twitch streamer, generally plays roguelikes but will hop on a game with pete) and him will bully children on voice chat together for the fun of the game. andy is objectively better at video games than pete is but pete is more enjoyable to watch because of his streaming personality. andy kicks absolute ass at hades though

i think joe and patrick start out as just andy and pete's respective partners but eventually start their own channels and almost exclusively use them to play mario party together. joe is somewhat proficient at video games but patrick is AWFUL and his chat loves him for it even if it means watching him get his ass beat in the minigames

i have a vision of pete becoming a gfuel hype beast for a bit and constantly doing sponsor segments for them until andy makes fun of him and then he switches to doing nord vpn and squarespace promos instead because they're less likely to get him publicly humiliated by his friends

(edit to add this on) i also think that pete babbles to patrick about game strategies that trick doesn't really understand or care about so he just lets pete talk and chimes in with the occasional That's Nice Honey while he continues doing whatever he was doing before pete came up. pete however could listen to patrick talk about how bowser is STUPID and he TOTALLY would have won the game if he hadn't stolen his star at the last second until the end of time. they are head over heels in love with each other no matter what universe.

Abella: A hardcore nostalgia gamer. Only plays on PC (built it herself). Bethesda hater and still won’t let it go. Has a picture of Todd Howard in her desk drawer with his eyes cut out. Her favorite series is fallout and has a solid year worth of time spent on New Vegas alone. Well known in the TF2 community. Used to have a competitive record in Tetris, but lost her touch from spending too much time at work. Favorite games are factorio, subnautica and terraria.

August: Calls every console a ‘Nintendo’. Calls on Abella for help with his computer frequently. It’s still on windows 7. Favorite game is solitaire.

Daan: Wouldn’t call himself a ‘gamer’, but has a steam account which he opens once in a while. Prefers narrative based horror games or puzzle games. Never spends more than 7 dollars on a game. Favorite games are bioshock, disco elysium, signalis and pathologic.

Henryk: Likes to dip his toes into a little bit of everything, but never able to get into the gamer scene. Owns a perfectly good PS4 that sits neglected and unused. Likes to talk about the nostalgia of his favorite games when he was younger and how modern games aren’t as fun. He also just has no taste. Favorite games are detroit: become human, fallout 4, borderlands, until dawn, bully and minecraft (the type of guy who always wants to make a big group world, and then when it’s made he never uses it). Abella trashes his collection.

Karin: Runs every game on her shitty company work laptop. Likes roguelikes, or any game that has a satisfying ‘tactile’ feeling game loop. A big resident evil fan, but they make her computer ‘make weird noises’. Favorite games are: Ultrakill, pizza tower, project zomboid, and multiplayer games like phasmophobia and lethal company. Currently has an obsession with Balatro that has gotten her in trouble with her boss. Has been known to play Fortnite regularly. Note: she’s BAD.

Levi: Definitely prefers 3D horror games. Nothing actually scares him though. Favorite games are amnesia: the bunker, alien isolation and the forest. Fromsoft fan, favorite game was bloodborne. He owns a decent gaming laptop and a PS2 where he plays tony hawk pro skater. Also likes half life, silent hill and the shin megami tensei series.

Marcoh: He owns a crunchy ass Nintendo DSi where he plays some pokemon like, once in a blue moon. He already finished the game 7 years ago but will never delete the file. If you look into it you’ll see that his starter is like level 100 and everything else is level 8. Never learned how to play, probably never will. Not a gamer.

Marina: Marina is a visual novel supremacist who downloaded the entire Fate series off a shady backdoor website that probably did something horrible to her computer. She loves horror, but is also not opposed to lighter fantasy stuff. Doesn’t like games that have no story. Favorites are the WTC series (Umineko supremacist), tsukihime, melty blood and rance. General classic nerd stuff.

Olivia: She runs a custom steam deck with a really cute pastel purple layout. She’s pirated the sims with every single dlc + a disgusting amount of mods (including That mod 😏) and it took up so much space she had to put in a 2 TB sd card to hold it. She likes all kinds of games, but has a preference for games with heavy writing/plot. Favorite games are SOMA, Mouthwashing, Stay out of the house (Really any games by kittyhorrorshow, puppet combo or yames) and Who’s Lila. Similar taste to Daan, but likes her games more gory.

Osaa: Probably the worst gamer of all time. Even mobile games are confusing to him. Always complains that the screen is too bright, even at the darkest setting. All games bore him. Horror games are juvenile. Story games are predictable. Action games are a waste of time. Don’t bother.

…Favorite game: Papa’s Burgeria or Bloons Tower Defense.

Pav: Favorite game series is metal gear solid. Owns a PS3. Another ‘nostalgia gamer’ who won’t touch modern games. Likes the typical PlayStation stuff like GTA, Assassin’s Creed, and New Vegas. Yes, he’s the type of person to play COD. Doesn’t have time to play games much anymore due to work (thank god).

Samarie: The same kind of visual novels as Marina, but worse. Big into denpa horror. Yes, she plays eroge. Has no one to talk about her niche vns with. Favorite games are cross channel, saya no uta (of course), chaos head and gore screaming show. She also read homestuck (which is technically classified as a denpa on the visual novel database, so….)

Tanaka: The number 1 mobile gamer in the world. Clicks on every single weird ad he gets with no hesitation. Like a cocomelon baby. Top of the worldwide charts in candy crush for 3 weeks straight. Plays these apps in public with the sound on. No shame.
